OLD-TIME SOFT SUGAR COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk

Topping:

1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream together shortening and sugars. Mix in egg, then buttermilk and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Chill dough 1 hour. Drop by teaspoon 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.

Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle on top.

Bake in 400°F (preheated) oven for 7 to 9 minutes.

Makes approximately 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
