GERMAN STYLE RED CABBAGE 
1 sm. red cabbage
1 sm. onion, chopped
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 bay leaf
1/4 c. water
2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 apple, peeled & chopped
3 slices bacon, cooked & crumbled

Cut cabbage into 6 wedges, removing core. Place in saucepan. Add onion, sugar, salt, bay leaf, and water. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Add vinegar and apple. Cover and cook 4 minutes or until apple is tender.

Remove cabbage to platter. Strain pan liquid reserving apple and onion. Discard bay leaf. Spoon apple and onion over cabbage. Sprinkle on crumbled bacon.
