HOMEMADE CARAMEL SAUCE 
1/2 cup whipping cream
2 tbsp. water
1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

In a small saucepan heat cream and 2 tablespoons water until steaming hot. Remove from heat.

Cook 1/2 cup water in a medium saucepan. Slowly pour in the sugar and salt in the center of the pan. Cover and cook until sugar is completely dissolved and syrup is clear. Do not stir.

Uncover and cook until it starts to color slightly. When the syrup looks amber (about 13 minutes) pour in the cream. Stir over low heat; simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.

Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Cool until slightly thickened.
