Loved em! A new one for my favorites collection.. Thanks to whoever submitted this recipe. I think I will submit a few of my own to share. I have a few great old cookie recipes that were my mom's. No sense in them just sitting in the recipe box! I love this site!

My mom baked all through the holidays and what she would have done to be able to find all these great recipes in one place. Thank you cooks.com!!!

Very good! We split the batter into 3 different bowls so we could use 3 different mix-ins. We used cranberries in one, rasins in one, and both plus pecans. We also added a dash of cocoa powder to the rasin batch. Great for breakfast! Love the recipe!

I was hesitant to make these b/c I thought they sounded too easy to be good, but they were AMAZING! I added toffee bits and nuts to mine and they were a hit. I will totally use this recipe again!

I also thought like Emily that the recipe seemed too easy to be good, but cookies are delicious! Also very impressed that they actually made five dozen like recipe stated!

Yahoo! I've been looking for this recipe in my recipe cards and couldn't find it. The Quaker oats box always printed this recipe. Then suddenly several years ago they changed the recipe (and not for the better). This recipe makes delicious cookies. If you want really crispy cookies, use all granulated sugar. My kids always thought that is was a crispy treat.

This is exactly the recipe I remember from the Quaker Oats cylinder box from back in the early 1960's. I added walnuts, chocolate chips, and golden raisins (left out the egg to make them vegetarian). I loved them and made them often but got too lazy to drop them on cookie sheets so I started packing them into baking pans and slicing them up into bars. They were awesome, and I've given that recipe out to hundreds of friends and coworkers since. I've seen similar recipes win awards several times since then, and it all started with this recipe, that's as old as I can remember.

 Debra (Texas) replies:
My favorite recipe! The newer one was NOT an improvement. Always add a cup of chopped walnuts to this and sometimes raisin and/or coconut and/or butterscotch chips. Off to make some now!

 Linda Eklund (Alberta) replies:
Thank you for letting me know the box recipe had changed. I made these cookies I thought just like my Mom made years ago but they were not the same. Didn't like them at all... now they are my go to cookie... my husband loves a good oatmeal cookie!!

This is exact same recipe I used for the first batch of cookies I ever made when I was a little girl. I'm 61 and haven't found a better recipe since this was on the Quaker box label. They were a hit then and still are. Only the crowd has changed! I will never understand why Quaker changed up the recipe. Glad I found this. Thank you.

 Connie R. (South Carolina) replies:
I agree with Pam. I miss the old oatmeal cookie recipe don't like all the changes Quaker has made. I wish Quaker would run the original recipe on the lids for those who miss them.

 Carolyn (Texas) replies:
Right there with you Pam. I had the original box recipe in my cookbook, but it was lost when I moved. I've made these so many times in my life (63 now) that I thought I had it memorized, but I could not get them to come out right. I had the sugar measurement wrong. So glad to finally find this on line.

I have been looking for this recipe for years! My kids and husband loved these cookies. Thank goodness I have found "the recipe". Why oh why did Quaker Oats stop putting THIS recipe on the box? You cannot change up something this good!

 Mark Stone (United States) replies:
After the hydrogenated oils/saturated fat scare of the 90's, many recipes changed.

 Nancy (California) says:
This is the original recipe from the Quaker Oatmeal box! The recipe on the Quaker Oats site is minus the water and 3/4 cup brown sugar instead of a full cup. I found the "original" on a box from 1982 and now here at Cooks.com! Yahoo! I made some at Christmas, but instead of raisins added the candied fruit (as in fruitcake) and they were amazing!

This is the real deal. The way it USED to be. Best Oatmeal cookie I've ever had in 45 years.

Thanks so much for posting this! I was thinking the same thing - why in the world would they change something this good?!

 Arlene Marks (United States) replies:
The reason they changed it cause Crisco was so bad for us. But I think they should let each individual baker decide.

Thank you so much for publishing this recipe. My sister won a blue ribbon at the county fair when she was in elementary school with this recipe from the Quaker Oats box. She became the best of cooks and her daughter won season 3 of the Food Network Star. My sister died last year and on the anniversary of her death we are all bringing food to share that make us think of Kate. I was so disappointed when I could not find the recipe on the box and here it is... Again thank you so much. I am off to cook.

Their website does not have the original cookie... I can't believe it!!! The last container I had was filled with broken crayons & I finally threw it out. Wish I hadn't. Thank you for posting & I am making for my grandson's long car trip tomorrow.
