“CABBAGE AND APPLES GERMAN STYLE” IS IN:

CABBAGE AND APPLES GERMAN STYLE 
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons sugar
6 cups shredded red cabbage
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup diced cooking apple (approx. 1 large apple)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 cups dairy sour cream at room temperature
Apple slices (optional)

In skillet melt butter; sauté onion with 2 tablespoons sugar 5 minutes. Stir in cabbage, vinegar and salt; cover and simmer 10 minutes. Add apple and 2 tablespoons sugar; cover and cook about 5 minutes.

Transfer to heated platter; spoon sour cream over center of cabbage. Garnish with apple slices, if desired.

Makes 8-10 servings.

This is really good. I did not have red wine vinegar so I substituted apple cider vinegar. It's better than the traditional "cooked cabbage" and I can see this will go well with meatloaf, etc.

This was delicious and made me miss my German Grandmother, what cook & she passed before I understood the importance of learning her recipes. Yours brought strong memories and intense satisfaction. It was yummy. I did substitute Splenda for Sugar. It didn't change the taste or texture.
