JACK DANIELS BOURBON PECAN PIE
This is a favorite during Thanksgiving holidays.

2 grade A large eggs (slightly beaten)
1/4 cup dark Karo syrup
3/4 cup sugar
4 teaspoons corn starch
8 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup Jack Daniels bourbon
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1 bag pecan halves

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Mix eggs and Karo.

Combine sugar and corn starch, add to egg mixture.

Melt chocolate and butter, cool. Add bourbon and combine with egg mixture. Beat together in mixer on slow speed.

Pour into a 9 inch unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle evenly with pecan halves.

Bake on cookie sheet for one hour. Pie should be firm and will "set-up" while cooling.

Note: If this is made using other brands of bourbon it may not taste as good. Toucan use the premade tart shells for easier handling at parties and social gatherings.

To make an impressive looking pie, lay the pecan halves on top in a circle around the edge and keep making circles until the pie top is covered rather then sprinkling them on top.

Jack Daniels Bourbon Pecan Pie

 KY Bourbon says:
Your recipe sounds wonderful. But just a small side note... Jack Daniels is a TN WHISKEY not a bourbon. Bourbons are from KY! We here in KY are a little particular to this.

One problem, Jack Daniels IS NOT bourbon. It is Tennesee whiskey. I used Jim Bean, which IS bourbon and this pie was delish!

 Kim says:
Jack Daniel's is straight bourbon whiskey. Honey, bourbon is a type of whiskey. Read the bottle.

 Tim replies:
Kim, why don't you go to Wikipedia and search bourbon and then search Tennessee whiskey?? Bourbon is NOT Jack Daniels by far...

Bourbon could be a whiskey, but in Jack Daniel's case it is not. Bourbon is made in Kentucky, JD's in Tennessee. They add an extra step (slow drip charcoal filtering) to make it a "tennessee whiskey" vs a "kentucky bourbon". In addition, bourbons have to be made from 50-79% corn; I read somewhere that JD uses 80% so that it wouldn't be classified as a bourbon... regional bickering and such. Supposedly JD's is smoother, but I really can't tell a difference; probably because I don't really drink.

Either way, I've had a similar pie and it was amazing. Can't wait to try this one too!

The distinction between bourbon and whiskey, while limited, is significant to the officianado. Check out this link for the straight story or better yet, visit a bourbon distillery. Maker's Mark is a fun one to take.

So I'm reading the bottle, and here's what it says (since I'm making this pie as we speak): "Why We Charcoal Mellow Our Whiskey...(redacted) Charcoal Mellowing makes Jack Daniel's what it is - a Tennessee Whiskey and not a Bourbon."

There ya go.

Well, I have always thought of JD as Bourbon. I too am making this pie and have about 30 minutes left of baking. I will let you know how it turns out. I made a Pecan pie last week and thought that adding Bourbon would be a great additive.. Thanks for the help.

This pie is extremely rich and wonderful! We are making this again tonight and might use a little less baking time.

Eric your recipe is great! I wished I had the time to play teacher and be a know it all like the comments you have received in being corrected on what is whisky and what is Bourbon. Who cares it is Jack Daniels that is all that matters.

I liked this pie better when it was called "Maker's Mark Bourbon Pecan Pie"

I've made this pie 6 times now, the first two times in a pie crust and the last 4 times i've made it for parties and instead of a pie crust I used mini fillo shells, filled each one then topped each with a pecan half... People think they're so cute and delicious! Plus, they are easy finger food and take half the time to bake! I used jack daniels both times.... But I am sure whiskey or bourbon makes it taste the same... I personally feel like the chocolate drowns out the taste of the booze. :o)

Jack Daniels is a whiskey and not a bourbon. Great recipe! Very tasty.

I've always thought that people would argue over anything, then I read all the comments about this pie.... All my thoughts were right!! Pie sounds yummy, can't wait to make it!

 Boiled Over! (Kentucky) says:
I used a deep dish pie crust and it boiled over. I layed out my pecans to make a beautiful circular design... it was ruined! Did anyone else have a problem with it boiling over?
