Good start to a great meal! I liked the ideas in this recipe.. However I added a few things. I added about a teaspoon of each onion, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. I also added about 1/2 cup more ketchup. It was very good :)

I skipped the butter and the olive oil, dissolved the flour in half the water and dissolved a bouillon cube in the other half. It was a good sub.

This is the bomb. I loved it. I just made it tonight. I had tried a previous recipe. It called for Karo syrup. I thought it was a little too sweet. This one had enough sweet taste, without being overly sweet. And for one or two people who thought it was too much water you didn't let it simmer long enough. I also added a little more ketchup. It was perfect.

This was really good after I let it cook down for 3 1/2 hours. It took a long time to cook down but I kept stirring and I didn't change a thing and it was fantastic. And if you are concerned about the onions and picky kids- don't worry- the onions cook completely down and melt right into the sauce after cooking it down. This is on the sweet side of sloppy joes not the savory side! Yum!

So this is the second time I made this. I used 3 lbs of ground beef and tripled the recipe both times. However, today when it got to the part to add the flour, I put it in first and mixed it with the burger (just like when I make biscuits n gravy). Then I added the broth and ketchup. This resulted in a much thicker sloppy joe right away! It still needs to simmer for a bit to marry the favors but I may have found a way to do this recipe much faster then a 3 1/2 hour simmer like last time! Oh- and I actually used 3 1/2 lbs of beef this time instead of 3.

Really good recipe! Instead of using green bell peppers I cut up some jarred roasted red peppers. Delish!
