I'm 70 years old and grew up eating this wonderful cheesecake. Couldn't find Milnot in the past few years so substituted 16 oz cream - it was delicious. My granddaughter loves this recipe and has wanted to try different flavors. We have tried lemon, lime, raspberry (real yummy), strawberry, cherry and orange. They are all good! Will be making this for her 10th birthday at her request. Went back to Milnot for less cholesterol- would NOT whip - will use whipped cream from now on.

I used filled evaporated milk and couldn't get it to whip as it did in the past. Still whipped up into a foamy volume and worked. Next time I am going to add the sugar to the evaporated milk and see if it whips up stiff instead of adding it to cream cheese. Anyone else try this?

Thank you for the explanation and information about why Milnot will not work, my wife tried to make the recipe and her Milnot would not whip for anything. Now she knows why!

Also beware of some other brands of evaporated milk. I had a can of a different brand in my pantry. When it wouldn't whip completely I remembered reading about the palm oil. Sure enough the can read soybean or palm kernel oil. Check ingredients before you buy!

We started using evaporated milk when we couldn't find Milnot in the stores for years. My daughter found Milnot today, came home, chilled everything and couldn't get it to whip. Dumped it down the sink and found a can of Carnation evaporated milk in the cabinet. Whipped up fine, even without chilling!

My mother made hers a bit different. Whip milk, add cooled jello, cream cheese mixture and a can of drained crushed pineapple. No extra lemon juice or vanilla. I usually drain my pineapple and use the juice to make the jello. So refreshing!

I just spent most of my evening trying to make this old family recipe. I threw away the first can of Milnot because it wouldn't whip. My mixer is 33 years old so I thought it was my mixer. I'm glad I found this site. Thank you! :)

I was disappointed that Milnot didn't whip anymore. However, I added 8 oz. of heavy, or whipping cream, and it worked! I think the jello and graham crackers need to be doubled. I used 3 cream cheese instead of two -- I might try 4 next time - but this worked and I had a fluffy cheesecake with that Milnot taste!

I was going to make the Milnot recipe since my Mother made it so many years ago, but cannot find Milnot, so I tried an evaporated milk, but could not get it to whip. I was wondering if Cool Whip would work. Does anyone know?

Ms. Pruett, from the Milnot company, came to my seventh grade home ec class, and introduced me to the product, 54 years ago. The cheesecake is such a treat when the weather is hot. There are two recipes in the cookbook, one more deluxe than the other. I tried to make it today and was very disappointed that the Milnot would not whip. Thanks for all the suggestions. No more Milnot for me.

The cheesecake recipe is great IF you can find a type of filled milk that'll whip up. Very disappointed they changed it after 50 years.

This is a family tradition dessert for years. I could not find Milnot anywhere, finally found some but it would not whip! I tried 2 cans and had to throw them out. I finally looked this site up and learned I've been wasting my time and money. Thank you. I will FINALLY be able to make this dessert again.

I had not made this dessert in years and was so hungry for it, but with just my husband and me it made too much. We had a family potluck coming up so I wanted to make this. I read the comments about Milnot, which I found at my local Kroger Store. I put in the refrigerator for several days before hand and put in the freezer 25 minutes before beating. I also chilled the bowl and beaters. The Milnot did whip to peaks, but the jello was not quite thickened yet so I put the bowl in the fridge. When I went to mix with the jello and cream cheese, etc, it had turned foamy!! Oh no, I thought I would have to throw out. I put the whole bowl in the freezer and went to town to get some pudding mixes to make something else to take to the potluck. When I got home about 40 minutes later, the mixture was partially frozen so I gently beat it with a spoon and it turned out alright!! I poured over the graham crackers crumbs and put in the freezer overnight, and took out a couple hours before the dinner. It was a hit, so I avoided what I thought was a disaster. I think the next time I will use whipping cream.

Well, it used to be 5* and like the rest of the people, this is the first time I couldn't whip the Milnot. What a shame for something that has been a wonderful dessert for so many and for so many years. I have my soupy milnot in the freezer now and will try once more before giving up. Glad it wasn't my stand mixer! I like how so many of us thought the same thing. Happy Holidays!

Thanks for all the reassurance that it's not me! Been making this for years and threw out my share of batches in the past few years that didn't whip! Won't buy Milnot again! Will buy the cheap stuff and give that a shot!
