BAKED MACARONI AND CHEESE
1 1/2 cups macaroni, cooked
2 cups thin white sauce (see below)
2 tsp. grated onion
1/2 pound grated cheese
fine buttered bread crumbs
paprika

Preheat oven to 400°F. Cook and drain macaroni and place in a buttered 1 1/2 quart casserole. Blend onion and cheese with white sauce and pour over cooked macaroni.

Sprinkle with buttered crumbs and paprika. Bake uncovered in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes.

THIN WHITE SAUCE:

1 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. flour
1 cup whole milk
1/4 tsp. salt

Melt butter at 200-212°F in saucepan, microwave or double boiler.

Add flour to butter and whisk well to blend. Gradually stir in milk, whisking constantly until smooth. Allow to cook over medium-low heat until sauce simmers and thickens to desired consistency. Add salt, to taste. If you prefer a richer sauce, use 2 tbsp. flour and 2 tbsp. butter.

Serves 4 or 5.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese

I made this recipe and doubled the cheese - half colby and half cheddar and added garlic. Then for the crumbs I used cornbread. My husband has asked I make it that way every time! The kids loved it - no leftovers!

It's awesome! I change some ingredients to similar ones. Like cheese, I used cream cheese, Bread to cracker crumbs and did not use paprika (don't have any). It tastes incredible.

Pretty good recipe. I did add 2 cups of flour, and two cups of milk. I also added 2 eggs and it was so fluffy! Just the way I like it. The only thing I forgot was to add salt. Other than that, I will most def use this recipe again.

Thank you! This is a great simple recipe. Although, I substituted 1/2 and 1/2 for the whole milk and use only 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese. My family has started requesting I make it more often. They love it!

Great recipe if you are in need of comfort food or for a chilly day. I used about 1/3 cup of onions and I used the Garlic and Herb bread crumbs. I also sprinkled parmesan on top when there was five minutes left in the oven.
All around great recipe, very versatile.

This recipe is written very well and separated with the sauce. The buttered bread crumbs are sooo delish! Great recipe esp when serving a larger group like during the holidays.
