I appreciate the review process here upon regarding the Easy White Gravy. It saved my life today. It really saved my life today. I read the recipe as a religious web reader. I review the recipes on Cooks.com and that is how I found Easy White Gravy. It's a little church recipe that I think is also secular and it helped. I got my food down. I am a diabetic and disabled. Thank you!

Loved the flavor of this recipe! Followed it closely. It turned out a little thinner than I care for, but the flavor was great. Will definitely add this to my list.

Very easy to make! It's a little on the thin side, not what I'm used to making... but it tasted great! I cut the recipe in half & it made more than enough for just myself... though I still ate it all :) I think this recipe would work well in baked dishes if you add a little cheese to it!

Easy, delicious, and if you have problems thickening it let it boil a minute more then cool off.

This recipe is wonderful! Quick and easy! I used it as a sauce for my breakfast pizza and it was just delightful. It was however a little thin for a pizza sauce so a quick fix was to combine a little milk and cornstarch in a separate bowl and thin whisk it into the gravy. I also added a little paprika and season salt for extra flavor. Overall, WONDERFUL! :)

 Eric O'Brien (Washington) replies:
For those who find this too thin, try simply increasing the amount of flour or decreasing the amount of milk. You need enough butter/oil to "wet" the amount of flour you have, but no more. For those who mentioned that their previous attempts tasted like "flour and milk," the thing that prevents that in this recipe is *cooking* the flour (in the butter) first. The butter/flour mixture will not look smooth as you stir it, but it doesn't matter. Keep cooking it, stirring continuously) until it stops smelling like raw flour and starts to smell more like toast... just barely. Take the mixture off heat, add only *some* of the liquid and vigorously stir it with a whisk. It will thicken up quickly. Now you can add the remaining liquid. Put it back on heat, stir vigorously to mix, then relax and stir gently. For this to thicken, it *must* reach a boil; you may need to turn the heat up. A gentle boil is fine. A minute or two after the mixture has reach boiling, it will be noticeably thicker. At some point, it will stop getting any thicker. You're done!

Great recipe! I've tried making white gravy only once before and it tasted like flour water. : ). I followed this recipe and added a touch of beef bouillon powder. Delicious! I've already used this recipe twice this week!

 Mandy (Montana) replies:
Great recipe, very easy to make. I used the advice of DigginIn & added in a chicken bouillon cube while it was boiling & the taste turned out great. Another person mentioned it wasn't thick enough, well if you continue to stir while cooking a little longer, it'll thicken as you go. This recipe is definitely a keeper!

I absolutely love this recipe. I do however add a couple of bouillon cubes - usually chicken. I prefer this gravy over Cracker Barrel! It's so good and easy.

This recipe was very easy to follow and prepare. Mine tasted like flour but next time I will try a suggestion I read and add some chicken bouillon to it. Also added sausage.

 Chaz (Arkansas) replies:
This worked great! This was much simpler and faster than my old Army recipe, and easier to scale up. I added precooked turkey sausage pieces to make a sausage and gravy (I don't eat pork for health reasons). Melting butter and stirring in flour until the flour cooks is called a roux. Cook it a little longer before adding the milk will darken the rue, making it good for chicken with a sprinkle of chicken bouillon. Cook the roux longer and when darker, add beef bouillon for a beef sauce,

When you first blend in the flour, salt, and pepper it can look a little clumpy. Stir in a little bit of milk to get it building. Don't forget to add sugar it gives it a little extra flavor that is great. Stir constantly! Tastes great

 Crys (Maryland) replies:
I think this is a great recipe, but the only thing is mixing the butter with the flour first made it really hard to then mix the milk in. I like to mix the flour and milk then pour into melted butter. Otherwise, delicious!
