When I am really lazy I thaw Rhodes Texas dinner rolls overnite in the fridge and flatten them and fill.

Kids really loved this, still it was missing something, going to try to figure it out. I also was lazy and used Pillsbury dinner rolls that were prepared. If you get them, buy the biscuits in the refrigerator section. You dont have to wait overnight. Tasted great though!

I have made a very similar recipe and we LOVE it. I use homemade baked cream puff shells and fill the shells w/ the runza filling and it is wonderful. :)

I always add cheese to it also.

I use sliced cheese in mine also. The cabbage, onion, hamburger mix was a little bland and did seem to be missing something. To fill that void, I did something different and it turned out to be great. I added a few splashes of dill pickle juice (claussens) and it was like the secret ingredient!

I tweaked it a little. Added 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp. Summer Savory, 4 cloves of garlic and to make it less of a hassle I used bagged shredded cabbage (not the slaw mix). It's yummy!

I serve them with brown gravy over them, so are no longer hand held, but delicious with the gravy. Never add cheese, might add a bit of minced garlic, and more pepper than in the recipe.
