GOLDEN BAKED MACARONI AND CHEESE
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups milk
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 (16 oz.) pkg. bite sized macaroni (8 oz.)
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
bread crumbs

Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Blend in flour and gradually add the milk, stirring constantly; add the seasonings. Cook until the sauce is thickened.

Add one cup grated cheddar cheese and stir until melted. Cook macaroni as directed, drain, and add to cheese sauce and mix well. Turn the mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish or pan. Sprinkle the top with 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs.

Bake in a 375°F oven for about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and place under the broiler until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned. Serves 6-8.

This recipe is so easy and so good! I make this at least 3 times a month for my family. Goes great with a salad and french bread. I make this so much there is no need to look at the directions any more :) Thank you for posting such a good mac and cheese receipe!

My husband and I are trying this recipe tonight. It is still cooking. It smells great, looks great and was a lot of fun to make together. Under the cheese, we added some thinly sliced (no pulp) tomatoes on top. We can't wait to try it!!! We love some good comfort food. Thanks for the recipe!

I made this for dinner tonight. I ended up using more cheese in the sauce, only because I had cheese I wanted to use up. It was so delicious! My boyfriend said that it needed to go in our recipe drawer as a keeper. Thanks for an awesome mac recipe!

Wonderful base recipe. As previous reviewer says, can add just about anything you want! I added diced ham, diced onions, garlic, chopped green chile peppers and sour cream. Also baked them in single serving stoneware of different shapes so I can deliver to my 80 something year young friends.

Amazing. I tweaked the recipe a bit I used Monterey jack, baby swiss, and then used sharp cheddar, mozzarella, for the topping. So good!

I just made this recipe for dinner...I'm young and have very little cooking experience, but this was pretty easy. The only thing was it came out a little soupy so maybe I didn't let the flour/milk sauce thicken long enough. Other than that...looks delicious!

This is not mere baked mac and cheese this is the GOD of baked mac and cheese. I didn't have all the ingredients to my old favorite baked mac and cheese recipe so I made this instead, and my life is forever changed... sigh...

This was the worst mac and cheese I have ever made! I was ashamed when I served it to my family. It had no flavor and the texture made it hard to eat. I wish I had never encountered this recipe.

I have tried this recipe again a little modified with a few extra spices. I don't understand where you went wrong and made such a disastrously horriable mac and cheese. I take it that you didn't follow the instructions! Every time I make this it's delicious creamy and melt in your mouth tender! Do you and your family have teeth? Try it again and try following the recipe! Try putting in your teeth and enjoy!!

Good, but could use some improvements. The next time we make it we plan to double the mild cheddar, double if not triple the salt, and halve the bread crumbs.

Simple and delicious. I was out of dried mustard and used turmeric for color. Looked great, tasted great. Kids gave it 10/10.

I've been making homemade mac and cheese for 40 years now and thought I would try something different. I must say that this recipe is amazing! My husband just loves it as do I. I've read some of the reviews and most are in agreement that this recipe rocks! It is D-licious!!!

This is the best Mac and Cheese recipe! I hardly ever cook but I am easily able to make this and fool everyone :) All my friends ask me to make this for every occasion because they say it's the best they've ever had.

I can't believe the other commenters - they must have messed up the recipe because you definitely cannot taste the mustard - and it was perfectly salted for everyone I know- and I'd rather add salt to an under salted dish than have an over salted dish!
