1/2 c. shortening 1/4 c. butter 1 c. white sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 6 pkgs. Lifesavers (5 flavor) Cream together shortening, butter, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and mix into creamed mix; cover dough. Chill for 1 hour on lightly floured board. Roll dough about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into Christmas shapes with large cutter or a sharp knife, use smaller cutter to make a cut out for windows. Place cookies on foil covered baking sheets; place whole or broken Lifesavers in windows, filling holes until candy is level with dough. Bake at 375 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned and candy is melted. Cool completely or baking sheets. Remove carefully. Makes about 4 dozen cookies. |
