This looks like a generously large cake, suited to multiple layers, a tube pan, or Bundt pan, and if mix cakes are any indication, it could take well over 30 minutes to bake in a larger pan. It might not need the entire teaspoon of salt, but some salt ought to be added to keep it from being bland.

This looks generally easy, I have not prepared this recipe because I was wondering if you would be able to use the recipe for cupcakes instead of a cake?

This is a very old, Southern recipe. It really does take about an hour (test w/ toothpick) in a Bundt pan. The beauty is that the outcome is limited only to the cook's imagination!

Worked beautifully and was moist for several days. It took a full hour in my stainless steel 9x13 pan, but was worth it. I iced it with with cheater's caramel frosting.

This recipe does well when you quadruple it. I usually have to do it for funerals and such an I also have a large baking pan to accommodate it. I also add pineapple to it and make a pineapple glaze to go on top... DELISH!!!

Just made this last night for the thousandth time. Baked for 1 hour in a tube pan, perfect! My mother made this for me and my sister's birthday all our years growing up. She used 9-inch layers and decorated it YUM! I cook in tube pan and top with powdered sugar.
