Brilliant! I have used this so many times, the key to not lumpy: beat your butter till creamy before adding sugar. Add sugar and milk gradually, until your consistency is how you like it. I used whipping cream today instead of milk and, OMG- Yum! easy to color, hard to stop eating!

The MOST perfect frosting/icing I have ever made in my life, and I'm 81! Please remember to sift the powdered sugar before measuring for perfect results! I made 1/2 recipe on my gluten-free cake, and softened the 1/2 cube butter quickly in the microwave, and added only 1 tbsp. whole milk! What a joy to finally learn of this ideal icing!

 jim replies:
Icing is like something you drizzle over lets say cinn rolls and frosting is thicker and more spreadable.

The difference between icing and frosting is icing is thinner than frosting which usually is richer also. Going to try this for the first time, hope it works as good as everyone says.

This is really easy. I used it for a cake that I made for my 2 boys (aged 1 and 4) and they loved it. I think I am going to use it more often.

Very tasty, but more like an icing than a frosting.

We have to say it is a terrific frosting! It was not runny at all like icing. We beat it and it was a very nice frosting. All we can say is, "Wow"! Enjoy.

Liz,

If you prefer a thicker frosting, start by only using a few drops of milk; add more milk, a teaspoonful at a time until you get the desired consistency. You can adjust the amount of the liquid or leave it out to have the frosting as thick as you'd like. You can use Wilton's icing white and/or clear vanilla if you prefer a very white frosting, too.
