BUTTER COOKIES 
3/4 cup butter
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 egg yolk, unbeaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 to 2 cups sifted Pillsbury's Best all-purpose flour

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Combine butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of white sugar, beating until creamy. Add egg yolk and vanilla, beat well.

Stir in enough flour to make a stiff dough. Roll into balls the size of a marble and place on greased cookie sheets 1 inch apart.

Flatten out to about 1 1/4 inch circles using the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.

Bake for 7 to 8 minutes until a light golden brown. Remove from sheets to a wire rack to cool; frost with confectioners icing or sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
