OLD TIME CARAMEL PIE 
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. flour

Mix well beaten egg yolks with flour and 3/4 cup sugar. Add milk and salt and bring to a boil on medium heat. Meantime, melt the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and let it reach a golden brown color; then add to boiling milk mixture and stir vigorously until melted sugar is dissolved.

Cook until thick. Cool. Beat the 3 egg whites with 6 tablespoons sugar until stiff. Spread over filling that you have poured in a baked pie crust. Brown in a slow oven.
