VANILLA CHIP MAPLE COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter, softened
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. maple flavoring
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. vanilla or white chips
1/2 c. chopped pecans

Cream shortening, butter and brown sugar. Add eggs. Beat in vanilla and maple flavorings. Combine flour and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla chips and chopped pecans. Drop by teaspoon on baking sheet.

Bake at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks.

Frosting:

1/4 c. butter, softened
4 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. maple flavoring
4 to 6 tbsp. milk
3 1/2 c. pecan halves

In mixing bowl, cream powdered sugar and butter. Beat in maple flavoring and enough milk to achieve spreading consistency. Frost cooled cookies. Top each with a pecan half.
