BANANA NUT BREAD 
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 beaten egg
1 c. bran or any natural cereal
2 tbsp. water
1 1/2 c. mashed bananas
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg, then bran; mix well. Combine water and banana; add alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly, add vanilla and nuts. Bake in a loaf pan for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
