CHILI 'N' BURGERS | |
1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef 1 egg 1 slice rye bread, soaked in water and squeezed almost dry 1 tsp. minced onion 1/2 tsp. salt (optional) 1/4 tsp. seasoned pepper 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can diced tomatoes, drained 1 clove garlic, minced 1-3 tsp. chili powder (plus more to taste) 1/2 c. water Pinch Sugar (optional) Mix beef with egg, bread, onion, salt, and pepper in medium bowl; shape into 6 patties; brown well on both sides in large non-stick skillet; remove from skillet; pour off all fat (dramatically lowers calories). Add drained tomatoes, garlic, and chili powder; stir a few minutes. Stir in 1/2 cup water; taste and adjust seasoning with a pinch of sugar, and more chili powder. Return meat patties to skillet; simmer over low heat 10-12 minutes. Serve burgers with sauce. Makes 6 servings, 252 calories each. Submitted by: Karen LaValley |
