BASIC SWEET DOUGH 
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. scalded milk, cooled to lukewarm
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. butter
1 1/4 c. flour

Place yeast into bowl. Add sugar, salt, milk, and eggs; mix well. Add 1 1/4 cups flour and beat until bubbles form on surface. Add shortening and remaining 1 1/4 cups flour. Let rise in a warm place until double. Flatten down. Roll into desired shape. Allow to double in bulk.
