BASIC SWEET DOUGH 
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 c. milk, scalded
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 egg

Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 cup flour and mix well. Add softened yeast and egg. Mix. Then add remaining flour and knead until dough is satiny smooth and elastic.

Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. Turn out on lightly floured board and shape into rolls. Let rise and bake at 425 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 35 rolls.
