5 cups plain flour 1 tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 cup sugar 1 cup butter flavored Crisco 1 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water 2 cups High Point Dairy buttermilk Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Cut in Crisco. Dissolve yeast in warm water for 5 minutes. Add yeast and buttermilk. Stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn out on floured surface and knead lightly about 10 times. Roll to 1/2 inch thick and cut with a 2 inch cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet, cover and let rise about 45 minutes. Bake in preheated 425°F oven about 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown. To freeze; Bake for 5 minutes, cool, wrap and freeze. To bake, thaw on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 427°F about 6 minutes. |
