GRANDMA'S OVEN BARBECUED SPARE
RIBS
 
4-5 lbs. spare ribs
1 lemon, sliced thin
1 lg. onion, chopped fine
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. celery seed
Few drops Tabasco sauce, may be omitted
1/4 c. vinegar
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
1 c. catsup
2 c. water
1/4 c. brown sugar

Cut ribs into pieces 2-3 ribs wide. Spread meaty side up on shallow baking pan, salt and pepper lightly and on each piece put a thin slice of lemon. Sprinkle gently with chopped onion. Put into 450 degrees, uncovered, for 45 minutes to brown. Mix sauce ingredients and bring to a boil. After 45 minutes of cooking pour sauce over ribs, reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue roasting for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Don't cover pan but baste frequently. Turn ribs occasionally.
