CHILI POWDER BAKED PORK CHOPS
6-8 center cut pork chops
chili powder
salt and pepper, to taste

Wash the pork chops then salt and pepper both sides. Layer them in an oblong Pyrex or bakeware dish that has been sprayed with Pam. Sprinkle the top side of the pork chops with chili powder. Cover securely with foil and bake 1 hour in 350°F. oven.

These are delicious. Serve them with rice and green beans. This was my Moms and grandmother's way of cooking pork chops. I have always cooked them this way.

Enjoy!

Tried this with extra thick pork chops, and the hour cooking time was a bit too long.

I too used very thick pork chops but only single layered. 45 minutes was also a bit too long at 350°F. They were still a bit dry. They were good but just a bit dry. There was plenty of juices in the pan so I pour some over the chops and it helped a bit.

One hour way too long. Chops were definitely dry. Guessed at 35 minutes instead of 60 for the perfect chop at 350°F degrees. If the above recipe is followed your chops will be as dry as the San Diego area not quite the Nevada Desert, 35 minutes they should be on Oasis of Chop.

Hi Darren,

It depends upon the size and thickness of the chops and an hour may be a very long time if the chops are thin.

This just illustrates how in cooking it doesn't pay to set the timer and walk away. You have to be a participant and keep an eye on things and use good judgment!

Thanks for your input.

I just made this recipe in a toaster oven, the pork chops turned out so delicious. I even subsituted the chili powder for a BBQ rub and it turned out wonderful!

I have been looking for recipes that I can make in my hotel room and this fits the bill!

Thanks so much!

A constant favorite (top round steak works, too). Instead of chili powder, try sprinkling w/dry onion soup-mix (about 1/2 package); set pork chops on large piece of foil, pull up foil around meat & seal; this way does not dry out. Very juicy. Try pouring in about 1/4 cup sherry after bringing up the foil & tightly seal;. 45 minutes - Yummy.

This recipes is in the oven and the smell is wonderful. I had some fresh mushrooms that I wanted to use up, so I placed a layer of sliced onion, then a layer of sliced mushrooms with the pork chops on top and prepared as stated in the recipe. Can't wait until they are done, the smell has our mouths watering already. I am taking the advice of other reviewers and checking them at 35 minutes. Using thick chops.

I tried this tonight. It was delicious. I used the onion soup mix and the foil. I baked thick center cut chops at 350°F for 40 mins. It was perfect. Paired it with rice pilaf and green beans. Thanks for the menu idea.

It seemed to easy... I did what recipe said and my husband, who never says anything, said those were good!... I was worried because many responses said 1 hour was too long. I had to cook mine for 1 hour 20 minutes. They were thick chops. I guess it just depends but really easy quick and apparently GOOD recipe!
