MOSTACCIOLI ITALIAN SAUCE &
MEATBALLS
 
1/2 c. onions
2 tbsp. olive oil
3 (15 oz.) cans whole tomatoes
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/2 tsp. red pepper
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. basil
1 tsp. salt
Dash pepper
1/4 tsp. marjoram
1/4 c. parsley
1 1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. anise
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 bay leaves
1 box mostaccioli noodles, cooked
Meatballs (recipe below)
French bread

Brown onions in olive oil. Add remaining sauce ingredients. Simmer 2 to 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally and adding water as needed. Add meatballs (recipe below) during last 30 minutes. Remove bay leaves. Serve with noodles and French bread.

MEATBALLS:

3 slices dry bread
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
2 eggs
1/2 c. grated Romano cheese
2 tbsp. chopped parsley
1 clove garlic
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. salt
Dash of pepper
2 tbsp. olive oil

Soak bread in water 2 to 3 minutes. Squeeze out moisture. Combine bread with remaining ingredients. Form small balls and brown in 2 tablespoons olive oil. Add to mostaccioli sauce during last 30 minutes.
