NORTH CAROLINA RED BBQ SLAW 
I am from Salisbury, NC and this is how we make it.

1 large cabbage, shredded
1 (15 oz.) can diced tomatoes
1 (16 oz.) jar hot chow chow relish
1 1/2 cups sugar
salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup apple cider vinegar
diced green pepper (optional)

Mix all ingredients together.
