FRENCH FRIED MUSHROOMS 
1 (12 oz.) pkg. whole, fresh mushrooms
1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
3/4 c. cold water

Pour cooking oil to measure 1/2 inch deep in skillet. Wash and dry mushrooms; set aside. Mix egg yolk, flour, salt, pepper and water to make a thick batter. Heat oil to 375 degrees. Dip mushrooms in batter and drop them into the hot oil. Fry them until they are brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve as an appetizer or as a side dish. Serves 4 to 6.
