ENGLISH LEMON POUND CAKE | |
1 c. shortening or butter 2 c. sugar 6 eggs 1 tbsp. lemon flavoring 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. butternut flavoring 1 tbsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. salt 3 c. plain flour, sifted 3/4 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tbsp. vinegar Sift flour 4 times; set aside. Cream shortening or butter and sugar; add eggs and mix well. Add flavoring, juice and salt. Alternately add sifted flour and buttermilk; beat well. Mix soda with vinegar; when foaming stops, add to batter. Place batter in greased and floured tube or bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 5 minutes. Yields 20 servings.
