CHEESE AND CHIVE BREAD | |
2 c. all purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 2 tsp. dry mustard 4 tsp. baking powder 2 c. whole wheat flour 1/2 c. butter 2 c. finely grated cheese 1 onion finely chopped 1 tbsp. fresh chives 2 eggs lightly beaten 2/3 c. milk 1 egg to glaze In a mixing bowl, sift the all purpose flour, salt, mustard and baking powder. Add the whole wheat flour, and cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs add the cheese, onion and chives and mix well. Add the eggs and milk and mix to a soft sough. Shape into a large round and score top into 8 wedges. Transfer to a greased baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg. Place in a preheated moderately hot oven 375 degrees for about 1 hour, until well risen and golden brown. Transfer to a wire cooling tray. Cut with into wedges and serve buttered with hamburgers, sausages or other barbecued food. |
