APPLE CRISP | |
![]() 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter 1 cup sugar 1/8 tsp. salt 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 4 cups apples, sliced 1 tbsp. water 1/2 tsp. cinnamon (or to taste) 1/4 tsp. ground ginger or freshly grated (optional) Cooks Tip: If your apples need a lift, sprinkle lightly with a few drops of fresh lemon juice, vanilla, or Calvados - but be careful not to overdo! Preheat oven to 375°F. Wash, peel and core apples. Cut cold butter into chunks. Using a pastry blender, work butter, sugar, salt and flour together until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Place apples into a buttered baking dish. Add water, cinnamon and ginger (optional). Cover with flour mixture. Bake in a preheated 375°F oven just until apples are tender; about 1 hour. |
