GRANDMA'S BEST BREAD AND BUTTER
PICKLES
 
4 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
8 white onions, sliced
1/2 c. pickling salt
4 c. vinegar
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. tumeric
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed

Mix cucumbers and onions with salt and 2 quarts cracked ice. Let stand covered with weight for 3 hours. Rinse and drain thoroughly and put in large kettle. Add sugar, spices and vinegar. Bring almost to a boil, stirring often with a wooden spoon. Pack in hot jars and seal. These are everyone's favorite at Grandma's!
