I have always used 1 dozen eggs and almost no milk and do not line the pan with any bread as usually rolls or muffins are served with the casserole. You can use any ingredients you like. Cubed ham or bacon bits are good too. Sour cream can be used in lieu of any milk. Let your imagination run wild!

This is wonderful , only thing I started doing is adding large can biscuit's breaking them up and instead of leaving them whole and then baking them using the recipes as it calls for ..
You can also add Green Peppers and MUSHROOMS :) with this makes it so yummy ..
God bless you and enjoy
we do ..

I've made this recipe twice now and each time it is very soupy. I end up cooking it longer and at a higher temp. Next time I'm going to cut down on the milk and cook it at a higher temp. It's got a great flavor I just wish it would firm up a little more

To Michelle's post below: if it was made for a vegetarian you would also have to replace the eggs, not just the sausage..right??

This was super easy and got great reviews. I made one just like the recipe and then one without the sausage for vegetarians, and both were yummy. I would think you could substitute any meat or veggie for the sausage and have it be just as good. Some fresh herbs or spices could enhance the flavor too if you wanted to get fun. But as far as simple, easy and basically yummy, this is a great recipe.
