WALNUT LOAF 
CAKE:

3/4 c. butter
1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

CARAMELIZED SYRUP:

1/4 c. butter, melted
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream butter and peel. Gradually add sugar. Beat with electric mixer, medium speed, 5 to 6 minutes. Add vanilla, then eggs, one at a time. Sift together dry ingredients. Combine dry ingredients with mixture stirring thoroughly. Grease bottom of loaf pan only, 9"x5"x3". Spread syrup mixture in bottom of pan first. Turn in batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Immediately invert cake on plate. Let cool in pan (upside down) for 3 minutes. Then remove pan. Serve warm or cool. Stores well in refrigerator.

SYRUP: Combine butter, sugar, nuts in a pan until melted.
