4 DAY SWEET PICKLES 
1 gal. cucumbers
Lime
1 tsp. alum
1 tsp. salt
2 pts. pure apple vinegar
6 c. sugar
1 box mixed pickle spice

1st day - 1 gallon cucumbers, cut in wheels, 2 hands of lime put in a 2 gallon jar or bowl, 1 teaspoon alum, 1 teaspoon salt. Cover with water and put in refrigerator for 24 hours.

2nd day - rinse well with clear water - fill jar with clean water and let stand 24 hours more.

3rd day - rinse with water and put 2 pints pure apple vinegar diluted with one pint of water. Add 6 cups sugar and 1/2 box mixed pickle spice (in rag). Put all back in jug for 24 hours more.

4th day - pour all ingredients from jug into pan and boil 20 to 30 minutes. Put in jars and seal. Makes 4 quarts. Best if put in refrigerator before eating.
