BASIC FRENCH BREAD DOUGH
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1 pkg. quick-rise yeast
1 tbsp. oil
1 c. hot water, 125-130 degrees
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 tsp. garlic
2 tbsp. Parmesan cheese
1 beaten egg white

To make whole wheat, substitute 1 1/2 cups whole flour for 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour.

Set aside 1 cup flour. Mix flour, salt, sugar and yeast. Stir in hot water and oil. Mix in reserved flour to make soft dough. Knead 4 minutes.

Roll into 12x12 inch square. Spread with butter, garlic and cheese. Roll up jelly roll fashion.

Place in baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Cover with a cloth. Place over boiling water in a large shallow pan. Allow to rise 20-30 minutes. Make slashes in the top of loaf. Brush with beaten egg white. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.

This recipe was so good. I have tried to make bread in the past and it was good but blah as far as a taste (flavor) I decided to use BREAD FLOUR for this recipe and it was magnificent!!. Use bread flour for bread and cake flour for cake recipes. You can't go wrong!!!! It's a no brainer!!!

I love this recipe!! The only change I make is that I add a ton of spices (oregano, parsley, basil, thyme, etc.) to the recipe when you add the garlic. I also add a tsp. or so of melted butter to the egg white every once and a while... Fresh spices work a ton better than dried spices in most recipes, so I usually use fresh! Best of luck:)

Great bread. Very simple. Let the bread rise in your HOT car not over a boiling pot of water. My wife has all ready asked when I will make it again.
