MINIMALIST CROCK POT ROAST BEEF
Chuck roast
Optional: spices or vegetables if wanted.

I learned this little trick from my cousin from California credit to Steve.

Place chuck roast in slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 4-6 hours or Low for 7-9 hours.

Optional: If you are home you can turn it over after an hour or two. No water or liquid needed - the roast will make its own. No browning needed as it will brown before and during releasing its liquid.

If you want potatoes, carrots and celery, add them with some salt about 1 to 2 hours before the cooking has finished. The lack of water intensifies the beef flavor and concentrates the natural salt content of the beef somewhat.

If using no vegetables you may need no salt so wait until near the end to taste and adjust the salt. This can be used as-is or shredded for numerous dishes.

It’s a good base to start from to prepare roast beef meals and so simple you will not believe how effective it is. The liquid has plenty of flavor, and should be saved and strained de-fatted and used for gravy or sauces.

Fantastic! We had our doubts about this working, but it worked so well! The meat was tender and produced lots of delicious juices for gravy (just add a little water-mixed-with flour). We salted and peppered the beef before putting it in and dashed on some Worchestshire sauce. Delicious!
