This is the recipe I have been making for 30 years. My son is now 28 and this is his favorite recipe for cookies bar none. I am making this for my 3 year old grand daughter today.. It is bringing back memories. I use self rising flour and omit the salt and baking soda and it works well too.

I too have made this recipe for decades. This was one of my first cookbooks. I have a 1940's edition. Lately I've been making them gluten free with coconut flour. The nut butter keeps it together and they are great for our gluten free friends. P.S. I sometimes use almond butter which is also very delicious.

First time I opened my mother-in law's Fanny Farmer cookbook, it opened to this page. This is my Go-To favorite cookie recipe, and every time I open the book, it opens on this page, every time! I can recite this recipe off the top of my head without even checking, but I always do.

I used chunky peanut butter with Reese's peanut butter chips and Reese's pieces. Extreme PB cookies!!

I'm 61 and still use this recipe from Fanny Farmer's cookbook that my mom always used. I found a newer book but it wasn't the same and the book lacked some of the recipes I was used to. The original is being held together with duck tape on the spine. These cookies are soft and chewy, I add some chopped peanuts to mine because my husband likes them that way. And sometimes I add a few chocolate chips to make them even more yummy for my chocoholic mom who is now 93!

I work at a hospital in central NH and we have a little market in there. I thought I'd make my famous peanut butter cookies from my husband's grandmother's cookbook that she gave to me. Ripped covers and torn pages however I couldn't find it with my tons of cookbooks. I then decided to go online and pray I could find it because my boss asked me to use up some peanut butter that we have on hand. Luckily I found it! I'm so excited to make them to sell in our market today! When my kids were little, I made them often with a sprinkle of sugar on top. Very inexpensive and always a hit!

Noted one error: this recipe should have 1 1/2 cups flour to be in line with the original recipe. It is always a winner here.
