Additions/alternate ingredients to this recipe:

Don't mix the hamburger meat and the soup, but put the hamburger meat in the bottom of the casserole dish.

Then, add a layer of canned corn (well drained) over the meat.

Add a layer of cheese slices (or shredded, but shredded makes the soup not as easy to spread)

Spread the cream of mushroom (or you can use cream of chicken for a bit different taste)

Layer the tator tots across the whole top of the casserole.

Bake per directions for tater tots.

Another two alternates:

With frozen meat: Brown 2 lbs. turkey or hamburger, add 1/4 cup water and 1 pkg. Lipton Beefy Onion or regular Onion Soup Mix. Stir well. Add Cream of Mushroom Soup. Stir well. Spread in pan. Add one can drained French cut green beans and sprinkle over meat mixture. Add 4-6 slices of American or Colby Jack cheese. Layer tator tots and cook about 1/2 hour or until tots are golden brown.

With thawed meat: Mix 2 lbs. meat with onion soup mix, egg and bread crumbs - or use your favorite meatloaf recipe. Layer in bottom of pan. Mix green beans and soup in a layer on top of meat. Layer with cheese slices and tots. Cook about 1 hour until meat is fully cooked and tots are golden.

We use 2 pounds of beef, 1 can of cream of chicken, 1 can of cream of potato. I mix the beef and 2 cans of soup together and 1 cup of milk. I put that mixture on the bottom of the casserole dish. On top of that I add a layer of cheese and then the tots on top of that. I bake at about 350°F for 45 minutes. Add another layer of cheese on top of the tots when done. I have a very pick boyfriend and he loves this dish.

Try adding taco seasoning to the ground meat, add your soup, layer the tater tots, top with a shredded nacho cheese and top with sour cream. It's awesome.

For breakfast casserole, use eggs, canned milk instead of soup and breakfast sausage for the meat. My friends and family like when I use maple flavored sausage. Gives it a pancake flavor.

Try adding corn to the hamburger when you add the soup... it gives the meal a little more flavor and a little more crunchy texture. My family loves this!
