These are almost like my oreo cookie truffles that I have been making for almost 10 years, but I don't separate the cream from the oreos and I put them in a food processor and dip them into unsweetened chocolate and semi sweet chocolate melted. Then I top them with different toppings such as sprinkles, crushed peanuts, powdered sugar, crushed oreo cookie crumbs.

Has anyone tried this with Nutter Butters? Just curious. We all love Oreos, but my husband prefers peanut butter.

I use the double stuff oreos and 8 oz of cream cheese. Then dip in White Choc.. I wonder if there is a peanut butter coating. I would like to use the Choc. oreos and dip them in a peanut butter coating. Any ideas?

They make peanut butter flavor melting wafers. Butterscotch too. Try to find a local candy-making supply store. They offer all kinds of great toppings for the balls too. And thanks for the pretzel stick tip. :-)

You can also use nutter butter cookies and dip them in chocolate bark. I've done both oreo and nutter butter. My family ask for them all the time.

There use to be reese's peanut butter chips. Are they still available. Wonder how that would be as the coating? Anyone tried this.

Other thought has anyone tried Nutter Butter peanut butter cookies and coated with chocolate almond bark or chocolate chips?

Just some thoughts....

I've made these three times for the Christmas season to give to family and friends. The best way to make these is by using only 4 oz. of cream cheese to 1 package of Oreo mint cookies (or regular). Chill after forming balls they are a lot easier to roll in almond bark afterward. I just used two spoons to help roll them evenly in the almond bark; it seemed easier than using a toothpick and I didn't get holes in them.

If you put the oreo mixture into freezer for 10 minutes, it is much easier to dip them into the melted chocolate without turning the white into speckled white. Another thing you can do is color the left over white chocolate and use a whisk to scatter color on top to hide any flaws. Plus it adds some spunky design :)

Best way to melt the bark or chocolate is with a double boiler. If you don't have a double boiler, use 2 pots, just set one on top of the other, and keep your heat medium-low. Almond bark is best for melting because it already has paraffin added to it, that's why its thinner when you melt it, when compared to chocolate chips. You can add your own paraffin to chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, cherry chips, peanut butter chips, etc. Just add the wax and melt it until it's the consistency you want and it's not lumpy. Then you can have any flavor you want. The oreo balls dipped in cherry chips have always been a huge hit at my house. You can even get crazy and roll out the oreo mixture on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper, freeze it for half an hour, then cut out little shapes to dip. They will hold their shape as long as you work fast and keep sticking them in the freezer. I made 400 heart shaped bites, dipped them in red chips, drizzled with white, they were gorgeous! :)
