CHEROKEE CASSEROLE 
1 lb. ground beef
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 bay leaf
1/8 tsp. thyme
2 c. tomatoes
1 c. minute rice
3/4 c. chopped onion
Pepper to taste (Governor Fordice likes lots)
1/8 tsp. oregano
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 can cream of mushroom soup
6 stuffed olives, sliced
2-3 slices yellow cheese, cut in strips

Brown meat in large skillet. Add onions and cook over medium heat until onions are clear and tender. Stir in seasonings, tomatoes, soup, rice and half of olives. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Spoon into a baking dish and lattice with cheese strips. Broil until cheese is melted and decorate with remaining olive slices.
