BOSTON BAKED BEANS
1 qt. navy beans
1/2 c. molasses
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 lb. bacon
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
Boiling water

Soak beans in cold water overnight. In the morning drain and cover with fresh water and baking soda. Cook slowly, simmering 10-15 minutes. Drain the beans and rinse in cold water. Scald bacon. Pour beans into pot alternating layers of bacon and beans.

Mix together molasses, mustard, cloves, sugar, salt, pepper and cup of boiling water. Pour over beans adding enough additional water to cover beans. Cover the pot and bake steadily for 6 hours at 250 degrees. Uncover the last 1/2 hour of baking to brown. Add water as needed.

Congratulations on submitting a real Boston Baked Bean recipe. You are the only one that uses some ground cloves. I did see another recipe that used some ground ginger. Using canned prepared beans and any king of tomato is a no no! I would use salt pork though.
