FLAKY SOUTHERN BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chilled vegetable shortening
3/4 c. cold milk

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In large bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt. With pastry blender or 2 knives used scissors- fashion, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until dough holds together. On lightly floured board knead gently about 1 minute. With floured rolling pin roll dough 1/2 inch thick. With floured biscuit cutter cut dough into 2 1/2 to 3 inch rounds. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve hot. Makes 10 biscuits.
