1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter

In a mixing bowl sift together flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Blend in dairy sour cream. Stir in milk until dough clings together.

On lightly floured surface knead lightly. Pat or roll about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out biscuits with floured 2 inch diameter biscuit cutter. Transfer to baking sheet.

In a preheated 450°F oven, bake for 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven and brush tops with melted butter.

This is a good recipie. I was out of buttermilk and was looking for a way to make biscuits. I cut the butter into small chunks and put it in the freezer for ten minutes along with the milk and the sour cream. then i cut the butter into the flour, blended the sour cream and finally added the milk. I also brushed butter on them prior to going in the oven and turned them to 180°F. 1/2 thru baking time. They came out light brown and crispy on the outside and moist and steamy on the inside.

I was looking for a recipe with all purpose flour and no buttermilk because this is what I had in the pantry. I happened to have sour cream and thought, why not try it. These turned out yummy! They were moist on the inside and just crunchy enough on the outside. I think I have found a recipe I will use often!

If you like these biscuits try substituting greek/turkey yogurt for the sour cream.

I tell you! I think this is a fabulous recipe! I used 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup bread flour! Wohoo! They sure did turn out as the title indicated. "Flaky Biscuits"! I am so proud that this worked out for me. As a woman, I can say that it was a fairly easy to follow recipe. Of course my woman's ph did not care for the baking soda, but overall good, healthy biscuits I got out of this recipe. Thank you Cooks.com! I found them to be exceedingly and exactingly flaky! Yum! I used oil instead of butter too. I used my mother's oil method. I did get coarse crumbs. That is what I used the recipe for.

Very good. Turned out nice. Not floury and dry like other kinds. Perfect for biscuits and gravy or just jelly biscuits. CM always has the best recipes.
