FRIED CABBAGE AND NOODLES
1 head of cabbage
1 box of elbow noodles
butter

Cut up head of cabbage and saute in butter in skillet. Reduce heat and continue to cook slowly. Meanwhile, in a large pot of salted boiling water, prepare 1 box of elbow macaroni according to package directions.

Once noodles are done and the cabbage is soft, drain the noodles and mix with the buttered cabbage.

Cover and let simmer on low for about 15 minutes.

This is a very old recipe that tastes fantastic. You can almost eat the whole thing yourself. Enjoy!!!

I made this just now but I added a bay leaf to my cooking noodles along with some other spices, then I added a bit of virgin olive oil to my cabbage as it cooked and I added tomatoes and ground beef, garlic and season salt. Yum!!!

Sounded real good as a different recipe. I started out as you suggested, but I added onion and cooked the pasta with the cabbage by added the water to the same pot. And of course, being Italian had to add Parmesan cheese. As you said, it was delicious. Bon appetit!!~

I was raised on this. We use bowtie noodles though. And I can eat the whole pot. My mother called it Felichki

Added chopped onion, couple cloves of minced garlic. At end add a couple splashes of vinegar... when you dish this - sprinkle on some Parmesan Romano cheese. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

I added a little bit of balsamic vinegar and a lot of black pepper and some paprika. It turned out better than I thought!

This is great! Try this one: saute chopped sweet white onion, couple chopped pods of garlic with cut-up pieces of smoked turkey (set aside). Heat a can of chicken broth in your best cooking pot and add shredded or quartered cabbage and a few 1 to 2 inch pieces of fresh carrot and place all ingredients into your pot with lid half on. Cook over medium heat until still full of color and crunchy. I usually serve this to the family with fried cornbread sticks (in meal batter, I put shredded cheddar cheese and whole kernel corn. THEY LOVE!

First time I made this (last Sunday), I added some red onion and left-over ham. It was very tasty, but I didn't make enough for the two of us because my wife took all that for left for her lunch. I've been thinking about it all week. Next time, I'll add some toasted caraway seeds and some garlic. This dish is very high on the easy/delicious scale and now has a place in our regular dinner rotation. I'll try other people's variations as well.

Try using a mandolin slicer to instead of a grater to shred cabbage. Very fast, easy & uniform thickness!

In Pittsburgh we called this HALUSKI (HaLooshKey) and it was served at all the local Polish joints. Cabbage was sauteed until soft and lightly brown with onion, garlic, and sometimes Sauerkraut! before adding noodles. Yummy!!

My daddy did the cooking, he was from Poland-this is such a wonderful side dish, and the variations are endless. He grew up on the north side, thanks for "da 'burgh" reference!

Wonderful recipe, and great ideas to change it up. I used leftover ham, then added a little Apricot Jam! I've had apricot jam with chicken, and next time I may try chicken and apricot jam with this dish! I wonder what a little cream of chicken soup would do for this (without the apricot jam, of course)!

Add a bouillion cube to the water before boiling the cabbage. This is the best weight-loss dish if you cut down on the noodles. With a vegetable peeler "shave" a few strips of carrots into the pot - makes it more attractive. Add a few sprinkles of fresh lemon juice. -

I just saw this and am delighted! When I was in high school (yes it was back before they invented wheel) my girlfriends mother fixed for dinner. I did not see her prepare it but thought it was great. I've asked people over the years and no one had heard of. On my way to store! tyvm
