SPEEDY CHOP SUEY 
1 lb. beef, pork or veal
2 tbsp. shortening
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. soy sauce
3 tbsp. cornstarch
4 c. cooked rice
1 can Chinese vegetables
1 can sliced water chestnuts
1 can bamboo shoots
1 (1 lb.) can bean sprouts

Brown meat slowly in shortening; add water, salt and dash of pepper; simmer until meat is tender. Add Chinese vegetables. Mix soy sauce and cornstarch and add to hot mixture. Cook until thick and bubbles, add drained bean sprouts, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. Serve on hot rice.
