BLACK WALNUT POUND CAKE 
1 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. black walnuts, chopped

Beat butter, shortening and sugar at medium speed for about 2 minutes. Add egg one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour and baking powder. Add flour and milk alternately blending after each addition. Remember to begin and end with flour mixture. Stir in walnuts and flavoring. Pour into a 10 inch greased tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove and cool completely on wire rack.
