APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1/3 c. shortening
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1 2/3 c. all purpose flour, divided
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground allspice
1/3 c. water
1 1/4 c. applesauce
1/3 c. chopped pecans
2/3 c. raisins

Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add egg, stirring well. Combine 1 1/3 cups flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginnign and ending with flour mixture. Stir in applesauce. Dredge pecans and raisins in remaining flour; stir to coat well. Fold into batter. Spoon batter into a greased and floured 9 inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes or until done.

Cool in pan befoer cutting into 3 inch squares. Yield: 9 servings.
