SPLIT PEA SOUP 
1 lb. pkg. dry split peas
1 ham bone or 1 c. ham pieces
3 qt. water, beef, chicken, or vegetable stock
1 c. finely chopped onions
1 c. finely chopped celery
2 chopped carrots (optional)
2 tbsp. lemon-pepper seasoning
3 tsp. salt
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c. dry sherry (optional)
Lemon, thinly sliced
Parsley

Put all ingredients except the last three in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Simmer about 2 hours; remove ham bone and chop the meat in small pieces. Return meat to pot; add sherry if desired and cook for 15 minutes.

Pour into soup bowls and garnish with lemon piece sprinkled with parsley. This freezes well.

This recipe makes delicious split pea soup. Next time I may reduce or not include the salt. It was a touch salty for my taste and salt isnt good for you!! I didnt add the sherry but did add the carrots!! Easy to make and delicious!! You should def try this at home.

I agree with Jess! I couldn't see this with more salt! I use a smoked pork neck and only add garlic and pepper. I don't use the sherry and blend mine until thick and smooth. I hate to say it but I usually give the meat to my dogs once the flavor is extracted! Eh... they love me lol! Simple and delicious! It is the perfect winter dinner!
