HAMBURGER-VEGETABLE SOUP 
1 lb. ground beef
1 c. onion, diced
1 c. potatoes, diced
1 c. celery, cut
4 c. cooked tomatoes
1/2 c. uncooked rice
3 c. water
3 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 bay leaf

Brown ground beef and onion in a small amount of cooking oil. When browned, drain off any excess fat. Combine with remaining ingredients in a large kettle or Dutch oven. Simmer, covered, for 1 hour or so. Remove the bay leaf. Any leftovers will freeze well.
